The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is a new requirement that grants permission to travel to the UK, including Northern Ireland.
The UK government has introduced the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme. This scheme is a requirement for visitors to the United Kingdom including Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Everyone including children who enter or transit through the UK, including Northern Ireland, must apply. However, you don’t need an ETA if you’re a British or Irish citizen. The ETA is electronically linked to your passport. While this means an additional step for clients planning a visit, the unparalleled tourism offerings and the warmth of the local welcome make it more than worthwhile.
Key Details Application: An ETA must be applied for online before traveling to the UK. Approval can take up to 72 hours from application.
Validity: The ETA will be linked to the traveler’s passport and will last for two years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. Travelers can make multiple journeys of up to 6 months within those two years.
Cost: The ETA will cost £16 (British Pounds) per traveler, including babies and children.
Exemptions: British and Irish nationals will not need an ETA to travel to the UK.
Requirement: The ETA will be needed for entry into Northern Ireland/UK, whether directly or via the Republic of Ireland. You will need:
- the passport you’ll travel with – not a photocopy or digital passport. EU ID cards are not accepted.
- access to your emails.
- a credit card, debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
- photos of the passport and of the face of the person applying .
You do not need to enter your travel details.
